 Champion Partners with Bodywaves, Inc. to Develop Line of Plus-Size Activewear for Fall 2005 Winston-Salem, NC — Feb. 2, 2005 Champion will introduce a full line of plus-size women’s activewear for Fall 2005 through a licensing agreement with Bodywaves, Inc., a manufacturer of plus-size apparel. Called Champion Plus, the line will include both performance fitness and ‘ath-leisure’ styles designed specifically with the plus-size woman in mind. “Our new Champion Plus line incorporates Champion’s signature performance and fashion features but with specific fit and comfort benefits important to the plus-size woman,” said Nancy Gendimenico, director of global brand licensing for Champion Athleticwear. “Plus-size activewear continues to be an underserved segment of the marketplace, and we are excited about the need this line fulfills for consumers and the growth opportunities it provides for our retail partners.” Champion Plus will feature a broad spectrum of collections from performance activewear using Champion’s Double Dry moisture-wicking fabric to luxurious velour track suits. Key styles will include sports tops, shorts, pants and jackets. Retail price points will range from $21 to $58. Distribution for Champion Plus will include department stores, national chains, specialty and sporting goods stores. Champion selected Bodywaves, Inc. which is based in Garden Grove, Calif., to develop the new line because of their expertise and experience in the plus-size category. The partnership was brokered by Champion’s licensing agency, MODA International Marketing, based in New York City. “Today’s plus-size women want to look like their average size counterparts,” said Stanley Goodman, vice president of Bodywaves Inc. “Our plan is to offer these women a full line of activewear and ‘ath-leisure’ for when they work out and while they go about their everyday activities.” Champion Athleticwear, a division of Sara Lee Corporation, offers a full line of innovative athletic apparel for men and women including sport bras, bodywear, uniforms, sweats and accessories.
