![]() Karastan Carpet License Karastan to Launch Design in America™-The National Trust Collection New York, NY January 12, 2006 MODA International Marketing, the licensing agency representing the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is pleased to announce that Karastan, a division of Mohawk Industries, has been licensed to develop a collection of new carpet patterns inspired by Design in America™ the National Trusts licensing program. Ten carpet products including eight patterned designs plus two coordinates will comprise the new collection, which will debut in February. A portion of the proceeds generated by their sales will benefit the preservation work of the organization. In announcing the relationship, David Hardy, senior vice president of sales for Karastan, said, “This partnership represents the teaming of two important American forces in the world of design. We are pleased to be able to introduce such a unique and impressive series to our best customers.” Karastan, an industry leader for more than 75 years, has created new carpet patterns that were inspired by iconic landmarks from across the country. Every region is represented along with a range of architectural and design styles, from a gothic revival to turn-of-the-century English manor to Georgian. Its an important marriage that allows Karastan to help support and bring greater awareness to an organization that is preserving Americas history for generations to come. Vickie Gilstrap, vice president of color and design for Karastan, and her design team toured the country visiting many of the National Trust Historic Sites. On these visits they found architectural details, design themes, color palettes and styles that have been interpreted into dynamic new concepts for the tufted floor coverings comprising this inaugural series. All told, six National Trust Historic Sites inspired the new collection: Brucemore, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Drayton Hall, Charleston, S.C.; Filoli, Woodside, Calif.; Lyndhurst Castle, Tarrytown, N.Y.; Oatlands, Leesburg, Va.; and Shadows-on-the-Teche, New Iberia, La. Commenting on the association with Karastan through its Design in America initiative, National Trust president Richard Moe said, “The National Trust is extremely pleased to partner with Karastan, a company known for its high quality products. This exciting new partnership will provide a way for people to experience a little piece of history in their home everyday.” The license between Mohawk Industries and The National Trust was initiated, facilitated and will be managed by MODA International Marketing, the licensing agency representing the Trust. According to Michelle Alfandari, president of MODA, “This newest licensee firmly establish Design in America-The National Trust as a viable brand in home and commercial décor joining other prestigious licensees in furniture, glassware and decorative paints and stains.” About Karastan Karastan is part of Mohawk Industries, a leading supplier of flooring for both residential and commercial applications.
